I did not find this in a book, but rather ...Peter,<br /><br />I did not find this in a book, but rather I (for the most part) discovered it on my own. I did however receive inspiration from Silberberg's textbook (mentioned in the footnotes) because it very briefly mentions multiplying together equilibrium constants of steps to yield the equilibrium constant of the whole reaction. I also received some help from Jim Clark, who runs chemguide.co.uk.<br />That said, while I myself didn't rely on a book, I eventually found out that derivations almost identical to mine have in fact been given before:<br /><br />Frost, A.
